New System To Provide Real-Time Medical Assistance For Patients In Palau

President Remengesau Jr., Minister Ngirmang and Taiwan officials during MOU signing in Taiwan

A new partnership has been established between Palau and the Health, Welfare and Environment Foundation of Taiwan to improve medical services.
During the President’s recent official state visit to Taiwan, the Foundation and the Ministry of Health signed a memorandum of understanding, allowing for the implementation of the Health Cloud Information System.
The system according to the President’s office would hook up Palau’s existing healthcare system online, allowing doctors and medical experts access to patient information.
With this new system, doctors in the US, Taiwan and the Philippines would be able to access information at any location and provide real time assistance in medical care and treatment.
The system would also enable telesurgery or telecare, which would benefit the Belau National Hospital in terms of trauma cases.
This new system, worth over $500,000 USD will be implemented by Taiwan at no cost to Palau.
Palau’s telecommunication upgrade through the O3b Networks, which is expected to start next year, would allow for the implementation of this new healthcare system.
