The European Union has increased its assistance in the Pacific by boosting current renewable energy and energy efficiency projects ongoing in the North Pacific.
On September 5, 2013, the North Pacific Renewable Energy Efficiency Project (or North-REP) for Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Marshall Islands was given further boost in funding.
EU granted an additional $1.05 million Euros for the Marshall Islands, and $.722 million Euros to Palau, FSM and RMI.
The new funding was granted through an Addendum to the Contribution Agreement between the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) as the implementing agency, and representatives from EU.
EU Ambassador Andrew Jacobs who headed the EU delegation to the Marshall Islands for the Pacific Islands Forum revealed that the additional funding granted to RMI will help electrify schools in the existing recipient atolls and few others.
North REP is scheduled to install a solar PV grid connected system in Palau while Yap State has installed a total of 233 kilowatt of solar PV micro-grids.
