The Freely Associated States of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia will not lose U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program funding. RMI, Palau, and the FSM Presidents expressed concerns following FAA’s announcement to consolidate bilateral communications from Los Angeles to its office in Japan earlier this year. FAA’s Senior Representative to the Pacific Rim told the Marshall Islands Journal that the change will not directly impact planned Airport Improvement Program funding. He says FAA is committed to uphold its obligations under the Compact of Free Association. He further added that the eligibility of Palau, the Marshalls and the FSM in receiving funds from the program is secure through 2015. FAA’s Airport Improvement Program has provided millions of dollars in funds in recent years for Airport related projects in all three jurisdictions. |
