Palau President Tommy Remengesau Junior has submitted a nominee the special prosecutor position that has remained vacant for years.
On July 2nd, President Remengesau submitted Dan Dorfman, an attorney out of the U.S. to fill in the vacancy.
Dorfman, who has worked for private law firms in California and Chicago, possesses personal characteristics that will serve him well as Special Prosecutor‚ says Remengesau.
Although, Dorfman does not have any experience in criminal prosecution, the President believes his experience in civil litigation and criminal defense would help overcome that.
In addition to a law degree, Dorfman also has a Master‚ Degree in Rabbinic Ordination.
The President expresses that his background as a Rabbi will prove to be a useful way to connect with the Palauan community.
Dorfman graduated from the University of San Francisco School of Law cum laude in 1998, and has been actively practicing law in both California and Chicago.
Dorfman’s appointment is pending in the Senate.
The position has remained vacant since Michael Copeland resigned from the post in 2010.
