Koror State leaders have expressed their disappointment with the $170, 000-dollar reduction from their block grant provided by the Palau government.
Koror State Governor Yositaka Adachi and Speaker Eyos Rudimch in their May 3rd letter to Senator Whipps Jr., urged the OEK to reconsider, as the reduction does not serve the interests of the people of the State.
The leaders also criticized statements made in the Senate Ways and Means and Financial Matters’ Committee report, which was relied upon to justify the cut. Koror State Government was reportedly not allowed to provide testimony or input regarding the needs of the state.
The leaders stated, “the needs of Palauans in Koror and the thousands of tourists visiting cannot be sustained due to the lack of funding provided in the past and with proposed reduction in future block grants.”
According to reports, Koror State has not received completed block grant funding since 2011.
