Pacific energy and climate change professionals are set to finalize the institutional development of the Small Island Development States (SIDS) Sustainable Energy Initiative, SIDS DOCK in Fiji.
The mechanism was established to accelerate the transformation of energy sectors of small islands, increase energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and generate resources for investment in climate change adaptation.
According to Ambassador Vince Henderson, SIDS DOCK chair the upcoming meeting in Fiji will address serious energy issues confronting Pacific islands. “Similar to many SIDS, energy dependence is a major source of vulnerability for our 13 SIDS DOCK Pacific members, and many remote and rural islands communities have little or no access to modern and affordable energy services,” he said.
The first SIDS DOCK meeting starts on May 6 in Nadi, Fiji. Members include Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia and Fiji
