On May 2, Palau’s Associate Justice Lourdes Materne found Senator Hokkons Baules guilty of assault stemming from an incident last year.
Baules was found guilty of one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. According to reports, Baules was initially charged with aggravated assault, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery for allegedly striking Kenheart Andrew Ksau on October 2012 after he was released from a 90-day jail sentence.
During the course of the trial, several testimonies from witnesses were heard including Ksau’s testimony, who admitted to have attacked Baules first. However the court found that the Baules struck Ksau with a chair after he was already on the floor.
Baules was then and is still on probation for two years and 9 months, remainder of suspended sentence for another case. He is also facing violation of probation for committing the new crime. A sentencing hearing has been set for June 10.
