Palau’s second post office located within the Capital Building in Ngerulmud has closed its doors.
The office, which was established more than a year ago, reached at least $30,000 in expenses with only $2,000 in sales.
Postmaster Timothy Sinsak said the closure on April 19 was part of the cost-cutting measures as it’s impractical to keep it running when operational expenses are much higher than its revenues.
In closing the location, Sinsak also transferred all of its employees to the post office in Koror. With the closure, Sinsak is eyeing Airai as a potential new location for the office, considering its population, however the idea is still being considered.
While situated at the Capitol building, the office mostly sold stamps with office mails dominating most of its incoming mails.
