After expressing his disappointment over the Senate’s fourth rejection of his appointments to the finance and education ministry, President Remengesau appointed his current Chief of Staff to head the Ministry of Finance.
Elbuchel Sadang, who served as the Minister of Finance during the President’s first term replaced Secilil Eldebechel as the appointee for the ministerial position. Eldebechel, the President’s first ministerial appointment for this position has received four rejections from the Senate, each rejection shy of one vote for confirmation.
Andrew Tabelual, the President’s nominee for the Education Ministry, who also received the same amount of rejections as Eldebechel still remains. President Remengesau has not made any public statements so far on whether he will be submitting a new nominee for this position. But he did indicate during a recent press conference that this position is clearly open.
Two ministerial positions still remains without appointments – the Ministry of State and the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Industries and Commerce.
