President Remengesau Jr. has pledged $25, 000 as seed money for the National Invasive Species Committee (NISC) to help combat invasive species in Palau.
During the recent three-day workshop to develop a strategic plan for invasive species, President Remengesau encouraged the participants to continue efforts despite the lack of interest from the community.
Committing his support to the prevention and control of invasive species, President Remengesau pledged $25,000 to initiate the implementation of the plan by addressing the most urgent need.
In addition, Remengesau expressed the need to reduce damages caused by monkeys in Angaur and prevent the spread of monkeys throughout Palau.
The workshop, which was organized by the NISC concluded on March 28 with a draft national strategic action plan for invasive species for the next five years.
