After more than 50 years since the United States conducted nuclear tests in the Marshall Islands, the government is now undergoing its final review to declassify documents and reports pertaining to the nuclear tests era.
In mid-February, the U.S. government completed the first of two reviews required to declassify the top-secret documents following the Marshall Islands call to release reports from the nuclear tests era.
In August 2012, the Marshall Islands government made a strong statement of concern about the lack of access to classified information about the US’ nuclear testing during a visit from the Kurt Campbell, the US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs.
US officials say they promise to update local officials on the progress, but did not disclose when documents would be declassified.
