Water rationing has been implemented in Majuro, capital of the Marshall Islands as a result of continued dry weather.
The country has not received a single drop of rain in one week bringing the country’s main reservoir to less than 10 million gallons of water. An advisory issued by U.S. weather officials in Guam for the northern Marshall Islands says not to expect any relief in the next few days and to prepare accordingly.
Water restrictions are in place in the country’s capital providing two hours, twice a week of water services, a significant reduction from its previous schedule of 8 hours a day, five days a week. The Marshall Islands heavily relies on rainwater as 90 percent of fresh water in the Marshalls comes from rain.
