US Congress Members Applaud Palau’s UN Vote Against “PLO Mission”

On December 21, 2012, 60 members of the U.S. Congress signed a letter to the Palau government to thank it for voting against the Palestine status upgrade at the UN which it labeled the “mission” of “the Palestine Liberation Organization[].”  (The PLO was long considered a terrorist organization by the US and Israel until the early 90’s when it recognized Israel’s right to exist.)

The letter further condemns Palestine for using the United Nations as a platform in their “reckless unilateral Palestinian statehood scheme.”  Below is the first page of the Congressional letter (the full letter with all signatories is six pages).

Palau representatives have recently sought the aid of the American Jewish International Relations Institute, a major lobby in the U.S. Congress for support of Israel in the U.N., to assist them with passage of the US- Palau Compact legislation.
