President Tommy Remengesau Jr. has nominated Ngedikes Olai Uludong as Ambassador to the European Union and Climate Change.
Remengesau expressed that this position with dual roles will allow Palau to liaise with European Union (EU) more closely.
He also stressed that nations and international organizations are undertaking more climate change related projects and providing support to developing countries for adaptation methods in coping with the effects of climate change. Therefore this position would greatly benefit Palau as the designated representative explore and take advantage of these partnerships and opportunities.
Uludong currently holds a position as a Senior Advisor on climate change to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Maldives, who holds the chairmanship of the Alliance of Small Islands State (AOSIS).
She is best known for her previous position as the Lead Negotiator for climate change for AOSIS under the Republic of Nauru’s chairmanship that ended in 2014.
Her nomination is pending in the Senate of the Ninth Olbiil Era Kelulau.
