Palau’s national landfill located in Koror has been on fire since midnight on December 3, 2014, according to the Fire Department.
A huge pile of old car tires were on fire with some still on fire. So far, the fire hasn’t spread to any other parts of the landfill or areas surrounding it.
At least five fire trucks and dozens of crew including a team from the Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) has been battling the massive fire for hours. Fire trucks made numerous trips between the landfill and the fire house including the hydrants near Palau High School for water.
It’s not clear what started the fire, however arson is a possible cause.
