The highly anticipated Kramer volumes are now available online for download following the official handover of the English translated volumes in late May 2014.
In the early 1900’s, renowned German ethnologist Dr. Augustin Kramer recorded details about the culture and life of Palauans, information that can greatly benefit the Republic.
However it was not until four years go when Palau Ethnology Translation Project was established to translate the German volumes into English.
Five translated volumes of Kramer’s research were donated to Palau in May; however only four are available for download while the remaining volume is pending final review. This volume will be available by the end of August.
With these five volumes translated, the Project will continue in its mission by focusing on translating Dr. Kramer’s remaining volumes on the South Seas Expedition. President Remengesau who earlier expressed commitment to provide financial support for the Project has donated $10,000 towards their completion.
The translated volumes can be accessed and downloaded through the Belau National Museum website at www.belaunationalmuseum.net or through Etpison Museum at www.etpisonmuseum.org.
PDF or electronic copies of the volumes will also be available for download at the Palau Community College library.
