Women’s Softball Team And The President Honors Three Palauan Athletes In Pohnpei

Before marching for Team Palau at the opening ceremony, the Women’s Softball Team accompanied President Tommy Remengesau Junior to honor three Palauan athletes who lost their lives during a tragic flash flood event in 2002.

On July 19, 2014, the athletes along with the President, sports and government officials travelled to Nett County to pay their respects to Claudia Ngirasob, Rita Gracia Sungino and Dawn Bachungor Rechemang, fellow athletes who lost their lives at the Liduhduhniap Waterfalls on August 4, 2002 after the 5th Micronesian Games.
The group visited the monument that honored the three women, and also presented a memorial plaque in their honor.
Also present during the visit were Johnboy Rechemang, Dawn’s brother and Kazuki “Topps” Sungino, Rita’s brother.
