Two Angaur fishermen remain missing after the 19-foot boat they where on capsized on Sunday December 29, 2013 off the coast of Angaur, an island state south of the main island of Babeldaob.
The five-day search and rescue operation for the two missing fishermen identified as Jesse Abraham and Gino Henry officially ended on Friday January 3, 2014.
Bureau of Public Safety Patrol Chief Peter Napolean informed OTV that although the official search and rescue operation came to end today investigation would continue in efforts locate the missing men.
The two missing men including Kodep Setsuo where out fishing on Sunday when a large wave overturned the boat.
Setsuo managed to swim to Angaur’s shore, but the swim reportedly took him nearly an hour.
Upon reaching Angaur, Setsuo immediately sought help prompting Angaur State Delegate Mario Gulibert to conduct a search for the other two fishermen with his personal boat. Unfortunately, Gulibert’s effort to locate the men was unsuccessful.
Law enforcement personnel including police officers and marine law officers as well as volunteers conducted an extensive search around Angaur this past week with no signs of the missing fishermen.
During the search, rescuers were able to find the 19-foot boat at about 17 miles south of Angaur.
