On November 27, 2013 voting took place in Paris for the World Expo 2020 bid.
Palau, the Marshall Islands and Kiribati were among the 165 nations in attendance to take part in the vote at the 154th Bureau of International Expositions General Assembly.
The four countries that were bidding to host the 2020 World Expo included the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Turkey and Brazil.
In three rounds of voting, the United Arab Emirates won by majority to have the 2020 World Expo held in Dubai under the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”.
It will be the first World Expo for the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (Menasa) region.
Most recently, Shanghai hosted the 2010 World Expo that brought in 73 million people.
The next World Expo will take place in Milan, Italy, in 2015.
The first lady Debbie Remengesau led Palau’s delegation to vote in Paris.
