The Marshall Islands opposition group has expressed their intent to set a motion of no confidence in President Christopher Loeak at the parliament’s next session.
Jaluit Senator Alvin Jacklick, the head of the opposition group told the Marshall Islands Journal that all the members of the group supports the decision to cast a vote of no confidence against President Loeak.
The announcement of the group’s intention follows Senator Jacklick’s criticisms over the government’s treatment of a senior Taiwanese diplomat at the recent Pacific Islands Forum post-dialogue meeting in Majuro.
Jacklick expressed that he was surprised that China was allowed to dictate the Marshall Islands, which has diplomatic ties with the Republic of China-Taiwan.
The vote of no confidence, if passed by the parliament, would show that the majority no longer supports the policy of the head of state and is no longer deemed fit to hold the position.
