Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie has called for a special session to move forward a bill that would legalize gay marriage in the state.
Governor Abercrombie has been considering holding the special session since two U.S. Supreme Courts handed one historic rulings about gay marriage.
Although Hawaii allows same sex civil unions, advocates argue that the provisions stops short of the full benefits of marriage.
If Hawaii lawmakers pass the bill, Hawaii would join 13 States including Washington D.C. in allowing gay marriage.
If passed, ceremonies could begin in November of this year.
The special sessions are scheduled to begin on October 28.
