Palau’s new Honorary Consul to Hawaii has begun working closely with the Palauan community since his appointment in May.
Hawaii State Senator and Palau’s Honorary Consul Glenn Wakai is helping the Palauan Community with projects that would help empower them in Hawaii.
In a press statement from the Hawaii Senate, Wakai says this appointment is truly an honor, which he accepts with happiness and determination, but he doesn’t plan to simply attend events and smile for cameras, he plans to empower Palauans in Hawaii.
In an OTV interview Wakai stated that he has already met with the Palauan community in Hawaii and that a few projects are currently being pursued.
In showcasing and promoting Palau, Wakai and the Palauan community plans to partner up with the Belau National Museum in creating a traveling exhibit in Hawaii.
There’s a huge urban art effort in Hawaii and Wakai says the group is working on joining them and putting up a Palauan story on a wall.
The group has also agreed to meet again next month to discuss access to education for Palauans in Hawaii.
Wakai, who has contributed to Palau and the Pacific through his non-profit organization “Reach Out Pacific”, is serving his second term as state senator.
