At the conclusion of the 13th Micronesian Presidents’ Summit on July 12 in Palau, the leaders signed a joint communiqué reaffirming their commitment and cooperation in continuing to work together to address issues of mutual importance.
According to the Ernguul (or Koror) Communiqué, the Presidents agreed to continue working together on a number of issues including the Compact impact, marine surveillance, improvement of telecommunication, and aviation matters among others.
Marshall Islands President Christopher Loeak updated the Presidents on preparations for the upcoming Pacific Islands Forum.
He extended his invitation to Palau and FSM to co-host a side event on the Micronesian Challenge during the leadership meeting in September.
The Presidents also expressed support for Palau’s exploration into the use of drones for marine surveillance and agreed that Palau would provide it’s finding to the RMI and FSM upon completion of the trial.
The Presidents also noted the Federated States of Micronesia’s presentation on FSM Migrant Households initial survey in Guam, the CNMI, Hawaii and the U.S.
Mainland and extended their support of the survey to include Palau and RMI as well.
The next Micronesian Presidents’ Summit will be hosted by the FSM in 2014.
