A new satellite is destined to revolutionize telecommunication and Internet services for parts of the Pacific and American Samoa is on the top of the list.
Earlier this year American Samoa Telecommunication Authority signed an agreement with O3b Networks, the company that launched their first four medium-Earth orbit satellites that will deliver fiber speed with satellite reach for Pacific Island nations.
The satellites will be a quarter of the distance from Earth that traditional satellites orbit in and O3b is promising its customers an astounding improvement over the delivery time of the older satellite providers.
The project to include American Samoa who is wiring the country with fiber optic.
The CEO of O3b Networks stated, “The Internet is now established as the key infrastructure that supports every sector of the economy and is a fundamental driver of productivity, innovation and economic growth”.
O3b joins other Pacific providers like Oceanic Broadband who offers a 512k home satellite Internet for under $300 per month.
