A 35-year old Chuukese man has been sentenced to serve 33 years in jail for raping a 12-year old girl in Oregon. Circuit Court Judge David Leith sentenced Eddie Luter to jail after he pleaded guilty to five counts of rape on June 14th. In early May, Luter walked into Marion County Sheriff’s office and confessed to sexually abusing the 12-year old since 2010. The girl also from Chuuk was staying with Luter and his wife in Salem, Oregon while her parents worked and lived in Chuuk State of the Federated States of Micronesia. Police detained Luter and contacted the girl who confirmed the abuse and provided additional information. According to authorities, the girl did not report the abuse because she feared for her own safety. In addition to jail time, Luter was also ordered to pay attorney’s fees and fines.
