Thirty young men and women from the Federated States of Micronesia are now new members of the United States Army following their oath of enlistment ceremony this week in Pohnpei.
According to reports, the group is the largest enlistment group from the FSM.
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Chief of Staff Leo Falcam Jr. who spoke to the young soldiers on behalf of the President Mori told them that FSM respects and supports their decision to join the military.
“From our small island nation, we take pride in our sons’ and daughters’ personal interest and commitment to serve in the US military to contribute in their own way to global peace, to democracy, to security and to liberty,” added Falcam.
Although the young soldiers will go through a series of training, a member of the US Army recruitment team told them not to forget to laugh, smile and to have fun.
