Ebeye In The Midst Of A Water Crisis – VIDEO

[hdvideo id=284]

By John Zedkaia
By the end of February 2013, Ebeye Island of the Marshall Islands was experiencing extreme water shortage as a result of an extended period of dry weather conditions.
With limited access to water and one out of three water tanks supplying water to thousands, people struggled to secure this precious resource to survive.
Residents were forced to survive on converted saltwater from reserve osmosis machines, but the machines proved unreliable.
When machines broke down, residents were then forced to retrieve water from Kwajalein.
In late April, Marshall Islands President Christopher Loeak declared a state of emergency as the country’s northern region faces severe water shortage.
