Amador Osima aka Amador Misech, the man who brutally machete hacked a Filipino woman in 2011, was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Friday February 22, 2013.
Chief Justice Ngiraklsong handed down the sentence in Palau’s first jury trial case. Misech was tried and convicted by a jury on October 16, 2012 of the second-degree murder of Virginia Ventura on June 28, 2011.
Attorney General Victoria Roe and Assistant AG Brentley Foster represented the Republic while Sigfried Nakamura represented Misech. Misech was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment, however, he received credit for time served and will be eligible for parole in eight years and four months.
The court strongly recommended that Misech should not be paroled until he has completed a mental health evaluation that shows he is no longer a danger to society.
Misech still faces trial in April on two counts of sodomy and one count of child sexual abuse.
