On February 2, the Republic of the Marshall Islands celebrated the World Wetland’s day for the first time.
Community members of the Namdrik and Jaluit Atolls lead the celebrations in the country by raising awareness of the importance of protecting wetlands.
Namdrik Atoll Senator Mattlan Zackhras says wetlands have a lot of value in the Marshall Islands culturally, economically and socially.
To commemorate the day, various activities were organized for the community to enjoy.
Senator Zackhras added that other initiatives in line with the wetlands day will be implemented such as replanting and planting mangrove seedlings.
